On the 5th of July I looked out to the backyard and saw a duck. Even though we live only a couple blocks from a small lake, this was the first time I had seen a duck in the yard. The first time I saw her, she disappeared before we got a picture.

When she came back, Joseph was ready with a camera - but he had to go outside to get the picture. Then he discovered why she was hanging around. Two little ducklings seemed trapped in a window well. Fortunately, they found their way out later in the day.

Mothers and babies are always great photographic subjects! Here's Joseph and Laura taking Austin to his first Girdwood Forest Fair.
