The flood - Part I

At 5:10 a.m. on August 21st, when I wanted to watch the U.S. Women's soccer team win the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics, I discovered water covering the floor in the lower level of our house. The water supply line had broken in the bathroom and was spewing water out at an amazing rate. Suddenly, we were thrust into extracting water, pulling up carpet, determining what could be dried out and what had to be thrown out. The water had spread into the family room, three bedrooms, the hall and closet and even into the garage. Fortunately it happened while we were at home and Alan was not due back to work for a couple of days.

Alan even organized the garage so we could store items removed from the other rooms.

I even learned how to use a heat gun and take up vinyl squares that had been on the floor for 34 years.

Now new carpeting and flooring has been ordered. It's scheduled to be installed later this week. I am so ready to start putting the family room and bedrooms back together. The bathroom will follow. Alan wanted to work on it next time he gets a break from work.

Is that the hall closet with the heat gun? I don't think I have ever seen it when it hasn't been overflowing with various coats, boxes, and snowsuits. I am glad your carpet is coming soon. It will be nice to finish a project, especially one you didn't choose to start.
