Amazing despite the cold

When we returned home earlier this week, our thermometer registered -25 degrees F. Brrr. However, I later found out Anchorage was in its second week of very cold temperatures. So I was surprised to wake up in the morning and hear birds outside. Amazing that when the temperatures are below zero there are birds flying around and in the trees. These waxwings especially enjoy the fruit of the Mountain Ash trees. They pretty much stay in large groups.

Then despite the cold Saturday night, I bundled up and went downtown to watch amazing fireworks in celebration of Alaska's 50 years of statehood. Oh, it was cold (-8 F.), but the fireworks were spectacular! Coming from three different locations, they filled the sky with light and colors. We celebrate and have fun even in winter temperatures!
